I would say I was the ‘middle of the road’ academically. I was always really sporting. I would take part in any sporting activity […]

2014/15: Pre-season Friendly – FC Halifax Town v Notts County

The 1991/92 season was the last of the ‘old’ First Division prior to the advent of the Premier League and saw West Ham United, Luton Town and Notts County relegated. How different would The Magpies future have been if they have been part of that inaugural Premier League season? Instead since that time, County have bounced around the lower divisions of the Football League, with their League One status only retained last season after winning six of their last eight games.

2014/15: Pre-season Friendly – Guiseley AFC v Bradford City

Despite the fact that the World Cup in Brazil still had two games to go, I opened my 2014/15 season with a visit to Nethermoor for the pre-season friendly between Guiseley AFC and Bradford City. One of my favourite things about visiting Guiseley during the summer months is that you get to watch the cricket prior to kick-off, as the ground backs onto the football pitch. However, whether those in their whites saw it quite the same way is another thing, as the sound of leather on willow was drowned an hour before the football started as the tannoy inside Nethermoor burst into life, with Elvis singing “A little less conversation, a little more action please”; although whether he was commenting on the slow progress of the team batting was unclear.
